Amazing cultural experience in Manuel Antonio

We had an amazing time in the cooking class with Juan as our guide, it was one of the highlights of our trip. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Costa Rican cuisine and how it has been shaped, and helped to shape, the country’s culture over time. We walked through the garden where you learn about the biology of the different plants that grow in Costa Rica. We had a tea that was made from herbs from the garden and he continued to tell us about the history of the Casado dish that we helped prepare. We finished the meal off with a delicious plantain desert with ice cream. I can’t recommend this tour enough for anyone that wants a delicious meal and chance to learn more about Costa Rican culture.
More than a cooking class - history/culture/context

There is so much culture and tradition in food. Through this cooking class with Juan and Clara, we learned about Casado - the traditional dish of Costa Rica; the traditional preparation method for coffee (chorreador); and also the differences between herbs available in Costa Rica vs. the United States.

I would definitely recommend this experience. Juan was a great translator and had so much knowledge.

Note: we mostly prepped/peeled vegetables and herbs. Clara did the real cooking and would demonstrate/explain along the way. Only prerequisite cooking knowledge needed is just prepping vegetables (makes this a bit more approachable for all levels)
Educational and Delicious!!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the garden tour and cooking class! The gardens and facilities are beautiful and very comfortable. Our guide Juan and chef Clara led our small group through a fun preparation of a delicious and authentic Costa Rican lunch. We had so much fun and came away with recipes and knowledge about the plants we used in the meal preparation. We highly recommend this class!

I was initially hesitant to do this tour because of the limited number of reviews. I’m so glad I did! This class was one of the highlights of my visit to MA. The tour was very well done and extremely professional. It was enjoyable for all skill levels and a unique cultural experience. The food we made and ate was delicious and we were given recipe cards to recreate the dishes at home. I highly recommend this tour and company!
A nice and tasty activity

It was fun for our family to learn about various plants and participate in cooking an authentic Costa Rican meal. Most of our participation consisted of chopping vegetables; we also helped form tortillas from raw dough. The meal (Casado) was yummy, and my kids especially enjoyed the dessert or sugared plantains and ice cream!
