What To Expect

Parque National Los Quetzales
The always elusive Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) spends most of his life migrating looking for his favorite meal – wild avocados fruits – among other species. On our highland birding and coffee expedition, we will meet with a local expert who knows when and where the Quetzals are any time of the year. As we explore Los Quetzales National Park – one can see the ways the surrounding villages have respected this magnificent place.

Our guides will pick you up from your accommodation at 4:00 am, our first stop will be San Isidro del General (one and half hour drive away) to drink a quick coffee and have a light snack. Our day starts bright and early as the best time to reach Los Quetzales National Park is before 7:00 am. We want you to have the best opportunities to observe and photograph this unique, beautiful bird. Once we had accomplished our mission we will drive or walk back to Mirador los Quetzales Sanctuary for more birding and some hummingbird feeders action.

4 hours • Admission Ticket Included

After our Quetzal Birding mission accomplished, we will drive to the well known Costa Rican coffee town of Santa Maria de Dota, where we will have pre arrange a unique coffee experience for you, designed specifically as an opportunity to navigate into the secrets of coffee and discover new sensations in a specialized tasting of COOPEDOTA coffees. Learning to identify the characteristics that make a coffee ... a world class coffee, as well as the benefits and qualities that each batch has during the cupping process.

Amazing tours and great guides

I did two tours with Manuel:Corcovado Park and Manuel Antonio Reserve. They were both great experiences. We saw many animals, the guides were very nice and most importantly very good at spotting wild life. I would really recommend this company
Great Visit to Los Quetzalas with Oscar

We recently returned from a visit to Costa Rica. On the way from San Jose to Corcovado we arranged an overnight trip to Los Quetzlas through Manuel. We stayed at Mirador des Quetzalas (separate review) and spent the morning touring and finding Qutzals with Oscar (manuel's guide) and Jason (guide from Mirador). Manuel handled all of the arrangements and transfers. Mirador was a basic but very nice lodge and Los Quetzalas is THE place to spot the Quetzal. We were quite lucky to observe a large group of four males and two females for quite some time. Oscar was a terrific and knowledgeable guide and a tremendous asset. He really made the trip for us.
On our way back to San Jose after Corcovado, we had a more disappointing trip to Manuel Antonio. It has become too busy and too touristy for our tastes.
If you want to find the Quetzal go to Los Quetzalas. If you want an outstanding guide request Oscar Herrera.
