Parque Nacional Rincon de la Vieja
National Park Hike

With our bilingual naturalist guide, you'll walk 3.5-km (2 miles) in Las Pailas circular path through the tropical forest to enjoy the best views of the volcano, incredible nature, volcanic activity, and wildlife. The park is home to more than 300 species of birds, and many other animals, such as armadillos, bays, iguanas, coatis and white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, spider monkeys,
toucans, turkeys, and much more. You will stop to view the volcanic activity including bubbling mud pots, fumaroles, and a mini crater.
The Las Pailas sector spectacularly shows the power of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano, the most active and largest volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Steam and sulfur come from natural fumaroles of the yellow and rusty soil. Witness clay pails in various shades of brown with boiling volcanic water, fine gray volcanic mud bubbles and explosions in large pails. This volcano is like no other in Costa Rica.

Santos was an AMAZING! tour guide. He was very informative. He also took the time to look for different species of animals, insects, and plants. He went above and beyond. Please use him for any activities. I recommend him. I give him 10 stars

This was an absolute amazing excursion. Our tour guide Hector was extremely knowledgeable and personable. We saw a lot of wildlife, volcanic activity, and beautiful landscape. The hot springs were phenomenal.
Best time of my life

I am a solo traveller in Costa Rica and let me tell you - it is super fun and safe. And I made friends everywhere I went. Especially with the people at Native’s way. They are fun loving, caring, professional and go out of their way to make your trip fun and memorable. The tour had a good easy hiking portion for about 2 hours and we saw hot springs along the way. We also spotted different kinds of wildlife, learnt a lot about the flora there. The drive up to the Volcano was an easy 1.5 drive with a stop for breakfast which was simple and hearty. After the volcano hike, we went to the waterfall at the property next door and it was amazing!!!!! The color and the water - I swam to my heart’s content and it was literally perfect. After, we had lunch at this property’s hotel. And then it started raining. But even then, we got to the hot springs and managed to get a dip. Bring flip flops!!! Otherwise you would have to walk on pebble filled ground for about 15 mins before you reach the hot springs (my shoes were soaking went because of the rain, so I decided to be brave and walk barefoot). Although I kinda enjoyed the challenge, I don’t think it is for everyone to do that :) it getting pretty thunderous and rain was getting super heavy so we didn’t have time for the mud bath but it still was all perfect. Got dropped back to my hotel early enough to catch the sunset and enjoy a stroll on the beach before dinner. You want to ask for Ceasar, Pablo and Alejandro for your trips. They were so fantastic!!

Enjoy your life!

We took the Volcano Hike, Waterfall Swim, and Hot Springs combo on Rincon de la Vieja tour. While it was raining off and on througout the day, our driver Ronaldo and tour guide Caesar (sp?) made the trip very enjoyable for our family. They were very attentive, helpful and knowledgeable about the country and native flora and fauna. The views of the fumaroles and mud pits around the volcano we're amazing. While the hike isn't overly demanding, make sure to wear solid shoes and be prepared for several elevation changes along the path. Lunch was provided at beautiful hacienda with great food. The hot springs were an excellent way to end the day with hot tub temperature waters to relax the tired muscles. Would highly recommend.fSt%qlJi7^8a
Wonderful Hike and Beautiful Falls and Springs

The Volcano Hike, The Falls and The Hot Springs were incredible. Santos was beyond stellar. He was amazing. His passion for the wildlife and the culture were evident when he was sharing about the area and during the hike. We would highly recommend.

It was moderately difficult but not hard. We are in our 60s and not fit and we had no tough challenges. Needed a break or two for all the stairs to the Falls or to the Springs, but nothing extraordinary from a challenge perspective.

The breakfast stop and lunch were great. Gave a good taste of normal life and foods.

The Falls were cold, but refreshing. The Hot Springs were so relaxing that we did not want to get out. The mud bath was the only downer. It was taking a bowl of mud and wiping it on yourself. It was not a soak in mud Springs. Nice exfoliation like a scrub pedicure, but not a whole body detox.

All in all, we would love to do it again and would recommend Native's Way and Santos to all.
