Overview

We offer more than just chocolate, Firstly, the chocolate tour begins with the cultural and biological background of cacao in Costa Rica. It further introduces into the collecting, fermenting, grinding and finally the making of chocolate, the drink of the gods.

Secondly, we talk about coffee and its importance for Costa Rica's economic and cultural development. We have a showroom with important coffee picking instruments and a better explanation of the process of coffee production. We want to show you how to make Café-Chorreado, the real Costa Rican practice of preparing coffee. Amongst other sampling methods.

Finally, we want to look at one of the most important aspects of Costarican culture and tradition, the trapiche: A sugar cane mill run through two beautiful oxen (Fast & Furious). Here we grind sugar cane to extract the juice and make all kinds of local and delicious candy. This is for sure the sweetest tour in the area.

A wonderful tour to learn about cacao on the pacific side of Costa Rica

Our guide was very knowledgeable of the history and culture of cacao. He also let me eat all the extra cacao in the sample he opened for us because I really love raw cacao. This was a perfect tour and I highly recommend it. Saw frogs, slugs, stingerless bees, vanilla, sugar cane, cinnamon… cacao, coffee…

Very educational. I learned a lot. The guide was very knowledgeable. Very hands on with tasting of the beans, chocolate liquor, coffee, and even operating a sugar can grinder to make a special cocktail!

Such an amazing tour! We learned all about cocao and the process of making chocolate. We also saw many other plants and fruits around the farm. We got to sample coffee and chocolate.

This was a FANTASTIC experience and worth every penny and the short drive from Dominical! Gregory was a wealth of knowledge about the history, processing, and preparation of Cacao, coffee, and sugar cane and how they all related to the history of Costa Rica. He also has many wonderful pairings of spices and flavorings to share with the cacao (ask him for an “Almond Joy”! Can’t say enough about this place! Definitely go if you’re in the area!
